Have you ever thought about the fact that what you do, how you live, what you become, is almost entirely up to you? Of course there are outside circumstances, but how you deal with them is still up to no one else but you. For example, every day I face decisions like:
1) Read a book or watch The Notebook?
2) Go to sleep on time, or keep watching ‘Making a Murderer’ until 5 a.m.?
3) Wake up with the alarm, or snooze 100x & forsake breakfast & shower?
4) Do the dishes, or just eat off paper plates indefinitely?
5) Do laundry or just buy new underwears?
6) Get in a workout, or eat an entire pizza by myself?
7) Make time to clean, or spend all my waking hours Pinning tattoo sleeve ideas?
8) Meal prep, or become a valued customer at Papa Ginos?
9) Have a professional social media presence, or drunk-tweet my boss?
10) Make mature romantic decisions, or Snapchat an ex at 4 a.m.?
11) Keep track of my student loans, or hide the paperwork in a drawer marked “DO NOT OPEN”?
Can you relate? I used to be the dude who’d listen to Yeezus over personal developmental . Watch this, I’m about to get deep…Shakespeare said, “To be or not to be…” To become or not to become; to achieve or not to achieve; to do or not to do—the answer to that question is what will determine the future & success of each of us.
Its healthy to ask ourselves how well we’re doing. Are we getting anywhere or aren’t we? Are we getting by or are we doing the best we can? Are we doing what we want to do or would we like to do something else, something better?
My mentor Jim Rohn once said, “If you dont like how things are, change it! Youre not a tree.” Decide to determine your destiny—& you can. The research of neuroscience has proved that what you determine for yourself, what daily decisions you make, what you give your energy to, will create or call upon a life force to turn those decisions into a touchable reality. Its the personal control of our own decisions which gives us the chance to change our futures.
Remember, you’re everything you choose to be. Youre as unlimited as the universe. And so I ask, Shakespeare or SpongeBob?
